Today There Are Excellent Vinyl Replacement Windows

Why Vinyl Windows Are a Good Choice For Some

vinyl replacement windows We install quality thermal wood & vinyl replacement windows. New vinyl replacement windows generally pay for themselves in about 10 years. Yes, new wood windows cost more but they may be more in keeping with your original windows and they generally have the best energy ratings.

Because vinyl windows installed a generation ago were so problematic we need to carefully consider whether it's wise to purchase vinyl replacement windows. But things have changed and vinyl windows have better warranties than their wood counterparts, and today they may be warrantied for as long as you own your home.

Please see our "Selecting Replacement Windows" article for more in-depth information on buying replacement windows, the link is in the right-hand column.

Our primary areas of service are Delaware County PA and Main Line, including areas from Swarthmore, Morton, and Media, to Yeadon, Lansdowne, Aldan, Drexel Hill, Havertown, and Springfield, and on the Main Line in Newtown Square, Wynnewood, Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Villanova and Wayne.

In the northeast area the average homeowner will spend $420 a year more in energy costs with single pane windows than they would with Energy Star qualified wood or vinyl replacement windows, according to the Energy Star website. You'll save less if you presently have triple track storm windows, maybe 1/2 as much, unless you buy triple-pane glass replacement windows, but they cost more. Given that you can get great vinyl replacement windows installed for about $250 per window by us, maybe it's time to replace those old windows.

You'll also want to consider the current 30% tax credit for qualifying windows that's being offered in 2009-2010, which will save you up to $1500.

Yes, you can also get wood sash replacements, which are recommended for historic restoration. These, however, won't include an incorporated screen, are about as expensive as wood replacement windows, and can't match the insulating capabilities of their "replacement window" counterparts.

How To Know Which Is the Best Replacement Window.     Ask the Experts!

Did you know that the installation of new windows critically effects their performance and useful life? Poor installation can cause anything from sagging sills to broken locking mechanisms, not to mention compromising the units insulating performance.

Following Are Excerpts From Energy Star:

U-Factor Scale On cold winter nights, do you avoid seats near the window? The cold, inside surface of an inefficient window pulls heat away from your body, so you can feel chilly in a sweater with the thermostat at 70 degrees. With ENERGY STAR qualified windows, the interior glass stays warmer, so you can enjoy your window seat even when the temperature outside dips well below freezing. Put your hand on the inside surface of a window with a U-Factor of .29, and energy tax credit qualifying window, and you'll be surprised how warm it is.

Most Low-E coatings, the same coatings that keep out the summer heat, can reduce fading by up to 75 percent. These coatings act like sunscreen for your house, blocking damaging ultraviolet rays without noticeably reducing visible light.

Simonton achieves an index score of 829 on a 1,000-point scale and performs particularly well in the ordering process, delivery and value factors. The 2008 Builder and Remodeler Residential Window and Patio Door Satisfaction Study is based on responses from 2,837 new-home builders and remodelers. Each respondent evaluated up to two manufacturers of residential windows and patio doors. The study was fielded between May and June 2008.

Making an Informed Decision!

I've unfortunately visited with people who had gotten a good deal on their new replacement window purchase to find out that the windows they had received were not energy tax credit windows as promised on the receipt. Will you know the difference? The old adage is true, "You get what you pay for". Our windows live up to the promise of high performance and proper installation. The Simonton warranty is transferable adding value to your home. The frame and hardware have a lifetime warranty (rather than Limited Lifetime Warranty with many exceptions), and the glass has an unconditional 20 year warranty, which extends up to 50 years on a prorated basis.
